GW School of Business Jumps in Financial Times Rankings

GWSB Jumps in Financial Times Rankings

GWSB has moved up in the ranks of the world’s top international business programs. A new report by the Financial Times ranks the School’s international business curriculum fifth globally, up from seventh last year. And the Global MBA program leaped 28 spots to finish No. 57 worldwide.

Among U.S. business schools, the GWSB Global MBA ranked 30th. Last year, it was 48th. And the School’s research ranking improved to 60th place, up from 82nd in 2009.

“The outstanding recognition of our international programs, and our progress among international and U.S. peers in this year’s report recognizes the effect of our comprehensive, full-time global MBA curriculum, which prepares our students for business in the worldwide economy of the 21st century,” said Dean Susan M. Phillips. “Our alumni are making great strides in the corporate world, testifying to and demonstrating the value of their GW experience.”

The rankings placed GWSB ahead of such highly regarded institutions as Notre Dame, Boston University, Thunderbird, the University of Iowa and the University of Wisconsin.

According to the Financial Times, GW’s MBA graduates also reported strong progress in the workforce: Despite the recession, their average salary has increased 97 percent over the past three years. The Financial Times found that alumni highly recommend the School.

“I am pleased with this significant increase on the Financial Times ranking, which validates the quality of the School and the tremendous efforts of our faculty, students, alumni and staff,” said Murat Tarimcilar, associate dean of graduate programs. “The GW School of Business is on the move with much more work to accomplish.”

Tarimcilar led the panel that redesigned the Global MBA program.

Reading my IT book for class, direct quote on Building Traffic to Your Web Site related to SEO...

"A meta tag is a special HTML tag, not visible on the displayed Web page, that contains keywords representing your site's content, which search engines use to build indexes pointing to your website"

It's a new edition textbook too. #textbookfail #maybein1999

Reading - "The Psychology of Waiting Lines" by David Maister

Reading this article for school and thought it was going to be lame, but it is actually quite interesting and so true.

Schools Out For Winter

We had our last class last night, it was actually a final and it was sort of a joke, but classes are done for now. One semester down, lots more to go. So far out of the three classes I know I have two A's but I'm still waiting to hear about financial accounting which is the one class I had difficulty with. It is definitely a lot of work but once you get used to it you get into a groove and it is manageable.

So for this upcoming weekend it will be our first in quite a while where we have no homework or studying to do and that will be a relief. We'll probably finish up some Christmas shopping, workout and get ready for the trip home next week. We haven't really been home to New England for a good amount of time since the summer, we were home for weddings and stuff like that but that's not the same.

Tomorrow night we have my company's Christmas party and it should be a blast. Everything I'm hearing from the other employees is that it is the best party of the year and such a good time. We are having a nice formal dinner in Annapolis at the Marriott and then we all stay over and party all night in Annapolis. Plus everyone gets to bring a guest so it should be a lot of fun and get a bit out of control.

That's it for now.

Tons Going On

Adjusting to our new schedule has been tough, as expected. Classes on Monday and Tuesday nights is tough and I've been having to travel a bit for work which will hopefully not happen too much more going forward. This past weekend was pretty chill, did a lot of homework on Saturday and went out Saturday night a bit too hard and then relaxed Sunday, watched football and got lucky because the Pats were on TV.

This weekend we are free again and don't have much going on. But then next weekend we have a wedding up in Maine and then we have another wedding the weekend after that up in Massachusetts so things are going to get nutty again for a bit. I'm hoping that things will settle at some point and we can get into a solid groove.

Anyway, need to get to bed soon, because we are lame and we go to bed early and get up early and blah blah blah.

Went 3-1 in fantasy last week so I'm 1-1 across the board for all four teams.

At Least I'll Be Eligible For Student Discounts

So it is Labor Day weekend and we aren't doing much of anything. I'm golfing tomorrow but other than that we don't really have any formal plans. I've been trying to make a point to give WTGW some attention this weekend because in two days Tracy and I start our MBA program at GW and that could be the end of any and all free time that we currently have.

We are going to be taking three classes this semester, two nights a week. On Monday night we are taking Financial Accounting and Statistics and on Tuesday night we are taking Human Dynamics. Not looking forward to accounting and stats but it will be nice to get those out of the way early. Overall I think it will be good and maybe even fun at times to get back into the environment of being a student or I could hate it and want to lite myself on fire, we'll see.

So wish us luck!

One Step Closer To Grad School

I wouldn't wish the GMAT on anyone, it was truly a miserable experience but an experience where I put that test into my own cocoon of fear and beat the score I was going for. So I guess all the prep course, studying and misery over the last couple of months ended up being worth it. Now all we have left is a few essays and within a month or two we should know where we are going. I can't even recall if I talked about going back to school on this partially abandoned website. Anyway, we are both planning on going back part time starting in the fall it is a pretty daunting idea but it's one of those things where you just know it is the right time and the right thing to do.

So after the test we went straight to the bar, I think we were there, sipping on our first beverage by noon...hey they were open so it can't be that big of a problem. The problem may come from finally leaving a lot later in the day long after the sun had gone down. We were able to slowly but surely get all of our peeps from down here to join us at the bar and have a great time. Fun time had by all as I resurrected my long lost Golden Tee game.

So we have a superbowl party to go to this weekend to watch the Patriots triumph victoriously over the Giants of New York. For you space cadets out there this Sunday also happens to be my lovely wife's thirtieth birthday so don't forget. I have something small planned for her but I'm not telling her until Saturday and it is eating her up and I think she may have a meltdown soon, she can't deal with secrets. So is there any doubt that the Patriots are going to win? I've been checking out this blog a lot lately Paul "Fitzy" Fitzgerald and before I read this Globe article, which outlines that the guy is basically an actor I thought he was a lot funnier. Nevertheless he has some pretty funny and creative videos and stuff on his site so check it out.

Alright, I gotta run. Hopefully I can get this thing going again with some regularity.
