Boston Sports Is Where It Is AtBeen a while since a real post and been a while since I shared a picture. Here is a picture I stole from the Boston Globe... These are 6 recent SI covers, one of these is the World Series commemorative issue but 4 of these happened 4 weeks in a row, I don't know if that has ever happened. The only similar time I can remember is when Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson were leading their teams to the NBA finals in the 90's and I think MJ had at least 3 covers in a row. Needless to say it it sucks to be a sports fan if you aren't from Boston. Imagine if BC had stayed on track and the Revolution won the MLS cup last week instead of losing in the finals?Anyway, I'm happy with where the Sox are at right now. They won it all and resigned everyone they needed to, now the only outstanding thing is whether they can trade Coco for something worthwhile, a couple of cases of baseballs should do the trick. Regarding the Pats, what is there to say. I hope they continue to embarrass every team they play, I hope teams keep complaining, I hope they run the table and go 19-0 and everyone can hate New England even more. We'll cry and feel bad with our 4 championships. We were obviously not around last week and we are leaving again tomorrow to go home for turkey day. At some point I'll give a proper recap of the ridiculous wedding we were at.Aunt Marylou's mashed potatoes here I come...Domination The Red Sox Winning The World Series Makes You A Zombie
I'm a zombie right now, but this past week has been unreal. There is definitely a different feeling from when the Red Sox won in 2004. That year we were living in Boston, I went to 15 home games and we were dancing on Boylston Street after the final out. This year was different but just as sweet in different ways.Since blogging last I was in Oak Brook, IL for three days last week. I was up late in my hotel room Wednesday and Thursday watching the Sox play and up early each morning for the meeting I was at, so I wasn't getting much sleep. I was going nuts by myself when Papelbon picked off Holiday in the 8th inning Thursday night. Friday night I flew home and of course there were delays and I didn't get home until 12 midnight, probably didn't get to bed until 1AM. Saturday we got a lot done during the day and that night we just stayed in and watched the game, the longest 9 inning game in World Series history. And of course I was up late again last night after having 6 guys, all Redskins fans, over to watch the Patriots vs. Redskins game. It was a long, long day to say the least. I got an interesting perspective of what other fans think of the Patriots right now. They don't like us...but I don't really care. I hope the Patriots go undefeated, win the Superbowl and disrespect everyone along the way.Tomorrow we are heading to see Jimmy Eat World at the 9:30 club, it is an early show so hopefully it won't be another late night. Jimmy Eat World has a new album out right now and they are one of those bands that I have wanted to see for a very long time now, seeing them at the 9:30 club is going to be nuts. The 9:30 club is DC's equivalent of Boston's Paradise Rock Club.Enjoy the week, I'll hopefully be around. Leaving for Scotland on Sunday so I'll try to get a few posts in before then.
Catching UpI had the opportunity to go to the Red Sox vs. Orioles game last week with some old workmates from Boston. They had an extra ticket and were nice enough to invite me. We had a couple groups of seats so I ended up getting to sit in a couple different places over the course of the night. Yes, the game I was at was the Red Sox first loss to Baltimore in 14 games, I have some mush qualities in me. Here are a couple of pics.
Big Papi Camden Chevy Chase Lax's season ended yesterday with a loss to the Guinness team. If you are wondering why I haven't written anything about our games over the last few months it's because we were pretty awful, as in no wins awful. As far as lacrosse goes we could use some work but it is a great group of guys and we're sponsored by my favorite local bar so it's is definitely worth it. The summer season will start in a month or so and I guess we are a little bit more competitive in that league. I think most of our games are against the sister's of the poor so we clean up on the competition. Big Wily Mo In The House
Big fan of today's trade involving the Red Sox and the Reds...ESPN.com - MLB - Red Sox trade Arroyo to Reds for Pena
What Would Johnny Damon Do?
Sign with the Yankees apparently...it's sad day in Red Sox Nation.
City of Champions
It's a bit dusty in here in our living room after I spent the last 60 minutes watching the City of Champions: The Best of Boston Sports, and by dusty I mean my eyes have been watering and I have a lump in my throat. What can I say, I love Boston and I'm a huge fan of everything related to Boston sports.
Lucky for me Spencer had an extra copy of this Boston sports video and mailed it to me last week. If you are Boston sports fan or just from Boston this video is a must see. It has a great soundtrack including tracks from Creed, Aerosmith and of course Thunderstruck from AC/DC. There are great interviews with prominent Boston figures like Peter Gammons, Doug Flutie and Mike Barnicle. What I was most impressed with was how the video didn't just cover the four major sports. There were highlights from Boston college hockey teams and Boston boxers like Marvin Hagler and Rocky Marciano. There was a whole story on Doug Flutie's BC Eagle team and even cameos of slam dunk champ Dee Brown and marathoner Bill Rodgers. Check it out.I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend and I'm happy to say that I didn't take a single picutre over the weekend for the first time in over a month, so don't bother checking out the Gallery. |
