George Smith
Ok so I've been trying to avoid writing about this for a while now because it just sucks and is very upsetting but I've got to talk about it. For those of you from Babson who have been hearing about this for the last month I apologize but I want others who read this site to know about it.For those of you in tune with current events you may have read or heard about the disappearance of George Smith who vanished from his honeymoon cruise in the Mediterranean over a month ago. Since this story was first reported there has been a lot of speculation and rumors in various articles about what may have happened but it appears that the FBI may be finally making some progress. I'm not using this posting to speculate on what may have happened or go into details of his disappearance, rather I just want to say a few words about George.
George lived 3 doors down from me freshman year and when you go to a small school you naturally become friendly with the people you live around, especially freshman year. "Big" George and I were pretty close freshman year because we were two, of a handful of people, that got put in a "substance free" dorm that hadn't requested it and because we enjoyed messing with and hassling those kids who had requested "substance free".I'm not going to make this out to be like we were best friends because we weren't and in fact I hadn't spoken or emailed with George in a few years, something I'm now regretting. But we had a lot of classes together, we would work on projects together and we would frequently chat on weekends to find out what each other was up to. George was a standup guy, fun to be around and now that I'm reflecting upon it he had a very similar personality as myself which is why we got along very well. I have a lot of funny stories and memories involving George that make me laugh out loud from time to time when I think about them.I've been extremely bothered by the whole situation and I know many others have as well and just talking about it on this site helps. I can only hope that there is some sort of closure soon. My thoughts are with his family, his wife, all of his friends and classmates from Babson and anyone else who knew George.
